U9

Lacrosse Canada's U9 Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) field lacrosse framework introduces players aged 7 and 8 to fundamental skills through modified, cross-field non-contact play. It prioritizes maximum participation, fun, and physical literacy over scores or standings.
Gameplay Format
- Cross-field setup: Uses a shortened cross-field layout (sideline to sideline, about 35x60 yards) to maximize touches and engagement.
- Team size: Played 5-on-5 or 4-on-4 with a smaller 4x4 net, using a soft ball instead of a hard regulation ball.
- Game duration: Features a 10-minute warm-up followed by two 15-minute running-time halves, with no official scores kept or displayed.
Rules and Environment
- Non-contact: Rules are strictly non-contact, featuring no deliberate body-checking, no offsides, and no faceoffs after goals.
- Coached on-field: Coaches act as the primary guides and officials on the field to keep the flow moving and teach proper sportsmanship.
- Development focus: Aligned with Lacrosse Canada LTAD guidelines to foster physical coordination, balance, and basic stick skills.
Game Play within the Alberta Field Lacrosse Association may be modified. Please see AFLA’s current regulations for more information.
